Stances

Soma utilizes a Stance System where she is only able to use certain skills while in a specific stance. The 2 stances are Asura and Indra stances. Soma's 2 trainee skills are utilized to switch into the respective stances:

Every other skills do not rely on her stance to be cast. It is essential that as a Soma, you do not needlessly waste your stance changing skills. For example, if you accidentally use Indra's Lightning immediately after Asura's Advent, you will not be able to utilize Asura skills until your Asura's Advent comes off cooldown. Indra's Lightning is generally less punishing in this regard as it is stack based (including EX). In general:

Asura Skills

  • Higher cooldown
  • Burst damage (single hit)
  • Chase & Back proc
  • Utilizes Kshana

Indra Skills

  • Lower cooldown
  • Damage over time (multiple hits)
  • Chase proc

 

 

Kshana

So you might have come across the term Kshana multiple times while reading through. Kshana is a system where certain skills require you to press the skill key again at a precise timing, which in turn rewards you with increased damage. The timing window is relatively short, between 0.3 - 0.5s. There is also a delay before Kshana can be activated, meaning that you cannot achieve Kshana by simply spamming the skill key twice in succession.

You can easily tell when you perform a Kshana as there is an extremely obvious "shing" sound along with an even more obvious increase in damage dealt. Skills that utilize Kshana are namely:

  • veZyLxj.png Finishing Move: Āgneyāstra (x1.5 damage)
  • f7OmYli.png Destructive Hit (x3 damage)
  • mMwZI2s.png c6JdHvW.png Asura Devastation / EX Asura Devastation (x3 damage)

As you can see, it is pretty much an outright x3 damage (other than FM1). Hence, Kshana is not optional, you NEED to proc Kshana every time or else you will lose out on DPS. And I mean A LOT of DPS.

Other than the damage increase, Kshana provides invincibility frame. The i-frame is lingering, meaning you will retain it until you land on the ground, perform another action or move.

As an advice, I would not rely on visual cues for Kshana; it can distract you from your overall skill rotations. Just familiarize yourself with the timing and leave it to muscle memory.

 

 

Skill Build

Do note that this skill build is for Lv85. However, the overall structure remains the same at Lv83. Soma is very straightforward to build in terms of skill build. Completely drop Two Moons and Phase Wave Sphere and then max every skill. Rest goes into passive. Finishing Move: Āgneyāstra (FM1) can be dropped to Lv6 for more skill points if required.

The answer is pretty simple: these skills do peanuts for damage and does not provide any useful debuffs nor buffs. Two Moons has a defense reduction debuff sure, but that is irrelevant at end-game once you attain 100% defense penetration. Phase Wave Sphere does have a crowd control functionality, but honestly Soma does not need crowd control. Your skills hit extremely hard and have a large hitbox; it makes crowd control redundant. Soma has no issues staying in air without these 2 skills as well. However, a value point is perhaps fine if you do somehow have issues staying in the air. Rakshasa's Karma is the only "neutral" skill that is kept as it still does decent damage.

I am personally an advocate of vanilla Asura Devastation. The reasons being:

  1. Overall higher DPS
  2. Much shorter cast animation

EX Asura Devastation does have extremely high percentage value, however the catch is that it has a 20s cooldown. In comparison, the vanilla version has a 12s cooldown. Vanilla also feels a lot better to use; EX has an awkward cast motion and is slower. To me, the only benefit of utilizing EX would be for bursting, perhaps for skipping certain phases in a raid. It does boil down to preference though, so using EX is perfectly acceptable as well. It does make skill rotations slightly easier as you can focus on using other skills since it does have a long cooldown.

So you might ask which Master cubes are important for her Special Agent skills. My priority list would be:

  1. Finishing Move: Omnipotence (FM4)
  2. EX Asura's Advent
  3. EX Indra's Lightning
  4. EX Asura Devastation

Finishing Move: Omnipotence has a very useful Master cube: whenever you use Mantra, you gain a 10s buff where you are able to use all your skills regardless of your stance. So you accidentally messed up Asura's Advent? No problem, Mantra is there as a back-up. On top of that, you receive a cooldown reset on ALL Asura and Indra related skills. This includes:

  • Asura's Advent (EX included)
  • Destructive Hit (Awakened included)
  • Asura Devastation (EX included)
  • Indra's Lightning (EX included)
  • Skanda (Awakened included)
  • Lightning God Arts

EX Asura's Advent is next in the list as it provides a critical resist reduction debuff. This basically translates to an increase in your overall DPS.

EX Indra's Lightning is nice to have, but not exactly mandatory.

EX Asura Devastation is kind of lackluster. It is nice to have though if you plan to use this, more for the percentage scaling rather than the actual Master cube.

 

 

Purification Module Selection

First, a simple summary of what each module set boosts. All damage increase values are when they are at Infinity (Tier 5) transcendence stage.

First of all, just to refresh our memories, the 2/2 set effect:

  1. Does not affect EX skills
  2. Does affect Awakened skills
  3. Core Awakened skills receive a diminished bonus

Now, when it comes to purification modules, it is highly subjective. Just kidding, there is an obvious winner and it is Halphas 2/2. Now there are some people (actually more than you'd think) that considers Tindalos. On paper it sounds good: Asura skills having high damage with forced Chase and Back. However, take a look at point 3. Precisely. Your gain is diminished on Destructive Hit. And if you plan to use EX Asura Devastation, it would baffle me as to why anyone would consider getting Tindalos then.

Wait, hold up. Diminishing? Wussat? To make it simple: the 38% bonus damage on your Destructive Hit does not add nor multiply with the 80% bonus damage from your core. Your 38% bonus damage is diminished, and HEAVILY at that.

Diminishing Math

Total Damage Increase = 1 - [(1 - C) * (1 - M)]

Where C and M are your percentage values denoted in decimals. Hence 80% from your core and 38% from module would result in:

Total Damage Increase = 1 - [(1 - 0.8) * (1 - 0.38)] = 0.876

This means your total damage increase is 87.6%; congratulations, you just gained 7.6% actual value from your module's 38% damage increase.

 

Halphas set on the other hand has no diminishing shenanigans at play. And mind you, Skanda and Lightning God Arts hit extremely hard as well.

Set Comparison Math

These calculations are for DPS GAIN that you receive from the set effect. It takes account of all HP based damage increase from skill cubes, along with cooldown resets. This is not 100% accurate but a good estimate. All values are assuming that your skills are maxed (Lv 20) and that maximum cooldown reduction is at play (40%).

Tindalos

  • Awakened Destructive Hit: (22684/7.8 + 22684/51 + 22684/72) * 0.076 = 279 DPS
  • Asura Devastation: (25141/12 + 25141/72) * 0.34 = 831 DPS

Halphas

  • Awakened Skanda: (15116/5.94 + 20150/10.56 + 15116/72 + 20150/72) * 0.38 = 1878 DPS
  • Lightning God Arts: (30297/10.56 + 30297/72) * 0.34 = 1119 DPS

Iod

  • Two Moons: (487 + 1462) * 1.1 * 0.48 / 7.2 = 142 DPS
  • Phase Wave Sphere: (2481*3) * 0.38 / 7.98 = 354 DPS
  • Rakshasa's Karma: (5191 + 5191 + 10382) * 1.1 * 0.34 / 8.58 = 905 DPS

 

Total DPS Gains
Tindalos: 1110
Halphas: 2997

EX Indra's Lightning does not have iframe.

As for the speed, I forgot. It doesn't really matter for Soma though, since she gets insane amounts of attack speed from her buffs.
